Description
Industrial lamella clarifier – High-Efficiency Compact Sedimentation for Water & Wastewater Treatment
WHAT IS LAMELLA CLARIFIER
In water and wastewater treatment, sedimentation is one of the oldest and most fundamental processes. Yet conventional settling tanks have a major drawback: they require vast amounts of space. A typical horizontal flow clarifier needs a large surface area to allow particles enough time to settle out of suspension. In many industrial and municipal settings, land is expensive, space is tight, and footprint reduction is a priority.
The lamella clarifier solves this problem. By using a series of inclined parallel plates, it creates a large effective settling area within a compact footprint. The principle is simple: as water flows upward between the inclined plates, particles settle onto the plate surfaces and slide down to the bottom for collection. The result is the same settling efficiency as a much larger conventional clarifier—but in a fraction of the space.
The DAGYEE Industrial Lamella Clarifier is a purpose-built, high-efficiency sedimentation system designed for a wide range of water and wastewater applications. Whether you are treating municipal drinking water, industrial process water, mining effluent, or chemical wastewater, this system delivers reliable solids removal with minimal maintenance and low operating costs.
HOW DOES LAMELLA CLARIFIER WORKS

The lamella clarifier operates on the principle of shallow-depth sedimentation, which has been extended to a parallel plate system.
The Basic Principle
In a conventional clarifier, particles settle vertically. The settling velocity depends on particle size, density, and the upward flow velocity of the water. To achieve effective separation, the basin must be large enough to keep upward flow velocities lower than particle settling velocities.
In a lamella clarifier, inclined plates dramatically increase the effective settling area. The horizontal projection of each inclined plate provides additional settling surface, so the total effective area is the sum of the horizontal projections of all plates. As a result, a lamella clarifier can achieve the same performance as a conventional clarifier occupying much more floor space.
The Process Flow
Step 1: Influent Entry
Water enters the clarifier through a feed channel at the base of the plate pack. In some designs, flow enters from the side rather than underneath to avoid disturbing settled material.
Step 2: Upward Flow Through Plates
The water travels upward between the inclined plates, which are typically set at an angle of 45° to 60° to the horizontal. As the water rises, solids settle onto the lower surface of each plate.
Step 3: Solids Slide Down
Once settled, solids slide down the inclined plate surface due to gravity. They eventually reach the bottom of the clarifier, where they collect in a hopper or sludge cone.
Step 4: Clarified Water Overflow
The clarified water, now free of suspended solids, continues upward and overflows into collection launders at the top of the unit.
Step 5: Sludge Discharge
The thickened sludge is periodically or continuously discharged from the bottom hopper for further processing or disposal.
Counter-Current Flow
Inside each lamellar channel, two counter-current flows form: the effluent moving upward and the solids moving downward along the lower face of the plates. This counter-current movement enhances settling efficiency and produces a denser sludge than conventional clarifiers.
