How does a decanter centrifuge work?

Mineral slurries are fed continuously into the high-speed bowl. The centrifugal force (up to 3000G) rapidly separates solids from liquids based on density differences. The screw conveyor transports settled solids up the conical beach for continuous discharge while the clarified liquid overflows from the opposite end.
1. Feed Introduction: Slurry enters through the feed tube into the conveyor cylinder, where it is gently accelerated to reduce particle degradation before entering the bowl.
2. High-Speed Sedimentation: Under high G-force, mineral solids settle to the bowl wall at accelerated rates. The centrifugal force is up to 3000 times gravity, enabling rapid separation of fine mineral particles.
3. Solids Conveying and Compression: The screw conveyor continuously moves settled solids toward the discharge end. As solids move up the beach, they are compressed to remove additional liquid, producing a dry cake.
4. Liquid Discharge: The clarified liquid (centrate) overflows through adjustable weir plates, with the pool depth controlling cake moisture and liquid clarity.
5. Beach Drying: The conical beach section allows additional drainage of liquid from the solids before discharge, maximizing cake dryness.
