How does a decanter centrifuge work?
The Process Flow:
Step 1: Feed Entry
The fermentation broth or biological suspension enters the centrifuge through a sanitary feed pipe, passing through the hollow shaft of the screw conveyor into the distribution chamber within the bowl.
Step 2: High-Speed Centrifugal Separation
The rotating bowl generates high centrifugal forces (up to 3500 G) that separate fine particles from the liquid phase. The denser solid particles are thrown outward against the bowl wall, while the clarified liquid moves toward the center.
Step 3: Gentle Solids Conveying
The screw conveyor rotates at a slightly different speed, gently conveying the settled solids along the bowl wall and pushing them up the conical beach section. The low differential speed minimizes shear on biological materials.
Step 4: Liquid Discharge
The clarified liquid overflows adjustable dam plates at the large-diameter end of the bowl. The liquid level can be adjusted to optimize separation performance.
