Description
High-Rate lamella clarifier – Compact Sedimentation for High-Flow & Limited-Space Applications
WHAT IS LAMELLA CLARIFIER
In many water and wastewater treatment applications, space is at a premium. Urban treatment plants have limited expansion areas. Industrial facilities have tight layouts. Upgrading existing plants often requires fitting new capacity into the same footprint. Conventional clarifiers simply cannot provide the required capacity in the available space.
The DAGYEE High-Rate Lamella Clarifier is designed for exactly these situations. By combining optimized plate spacing, enhanced flow distribution, and compact design, this system achieves hydraulic loading rates up to three times higher than conventional clarifiers. It provides high-efficiency solids removal in a footprint that is a fraction of traditional sedimentation basins.
This system is ideal for plant expansions where no additional land is available, for high-flow industrial applications, and for municipal upgrades that require more capacity in the same footprint. It is also the perfect solution for high-velocity stormwater treatment and other applications where rapid settling is essential.
HOW DOES LAMELLA CLARIFIER WORKS

The lamella clarifier operates on the principle of shallow-depth sedimentation, which has been extended to a parallel plate system.
The Basic Principle
In a conventional clarifier, particles settle vertically. The settling velocity depends on particle size, density, and the upward flow velocity of the water. To achieve effective separation, the basin must be large enough to keep upward flow velocities lower than particle settling velocities.
In a lamella clarifier, inclined plates dramatically increase the effective settling area. The horizontal projection of each inclined plate provides additional settling surface, so the total effective area is the sum of the horizontal projections of all plates. As a result, a lamella clarifier can achieve the same performance as a conventional clarifier occupying much more floor space.
The Process Flow
Step 1: Chemical Conditioning
Raw water enters the flocculation tank. Coagulant and flocculant are added to form dense, rapidly settling flocs.
Step 2: High-Rate Plate Settling
The flocculated water enters the Lamella Plate pack. The closely spaced plates provide an exceptionally large effective settling area. Water flows upward between the plates at a higher velocity than conventional systems, yet the dense flocs settle rapidly.
Step 3: Rapid Solids Removal
Solids settle onto the plates and slide down to the sludge hopper. The steep hopper angle prevents bridging and ensures consistent discharge.
Step 4: High-Quality Effluent
The clarified water overflows into collection launders. The effluent quality meets stringent discharge limits, even at high flow rates.
Step 5: Sludge Discharge
Thickened sludge is removed manually or automatically, depending on the configuration.
Continuous Operation
The high-rate system operates continuously, handling flow variations without compromising performance. The rapid settling rate allows the system to respond quickly to changes in feed conditions.
