    Description

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) System for Chemical Processing – High-Efficiency Solids and Hydrocarbon Removal from Industrial Effluents

    Dissolved air flotation description

Chemical manufacturing generates some of the most complex and challenging wastewater streams in the industrial sector. Effluents contain a wide range of contaminants—suspended solids, hydrocarbons, solvents, chemical precipitates, catalysts, polymers, pigments, and other organic and inorganic materials. Discharge permits for chemical plants are stringent, and violations carry significant penalties.

The DAGYEE DAF System for Chemical Processing is specifically engineered for the demanding conditions of chemical wastewater treatment. It removes suspended solids, hydrocarbons, and chemical precipitates from process effluent, helping chemical plants meet discharge requirements and reduce operating costs. The system features corrosion-resistant construction for compatibility with aggressive wastewater chemistry.

From polymer production and paint manufacturing to petrochemical processing and specialty chemicals, DAGYEE DAF systems deliver reliable performance with automated operation and low maintenance requirements. The system is designed for the variable flow, high solids loading, and complex chemistry typical of chemical processing facilities.

    How the DAF System Works

    Step 1: Influent Conditioning
Chemical wastewater enters the system through an inlet chamber. The feed may require pH adjustment to optimize chemical treatment. For streams containing emulsified hydrocarbons or oils, demulsifiers may be added to break emulsions.

    Step 2: Chemical Addition
Coagulants and flocculants are added to destabilize particles and form larger flocs. For chemical wastewater, chemical selection depends on the specific contaminants—metal hydroxides, organic solids, pigments, or polymers. Jar testing on your specific effluent is used to determine the optimal chemical program.

    Step 3: Flocculation
Gentle mixing promotes floc growth and aggregation of suspended solids, chemical precipitates, and other contaminants. The flocculation stage is critical for achieving high removal efficiencies.

Step 4: Air Saturation and Micro-Bubble Generation
A portion of the clarified effluent is recycled through the saturator, where air is dissolved under pressure. The pressurized recycle stream is released through specially designed nozzles at the DAF inlet, creating millions of micro-bubbles.

    Step 5: Flotation and Separation
The micro-bubbles attach to flocs, lifting them to the surface. A layer of float solids accumulates on the water surface. The clarified effluent is drawn from the bottom of the tank.

    Step 6: Solids Skimming
A motorized skimmer continuously removes the float to a collection hopper. The concentrated solids are discharged to sludge handling.

    Step 7: Effluent Discharge
The clarified effluent flows to discharge, further treatment, or reuse.

    Dissolved air flotation process flow

    1. Chemical Treatment: Wastewater is mixed with coagulants and flocculants to form larger particles ("flocs").

    2. Air Injection & Contact: Pressurized, air-saturated water is released into the water stream, creating fine bubbles that attach to the flocs.

    3. Separation: The air-floc aggregates float to the surface, forming a sludge layer.

    4. Sludge Removal: A surface scraper removes the floating sludge.

    5. Water Outlet: Clarified water is collected from the bottom of the tank and discharged. Part of it is often recycled to create the pressurized air stream.

What the System Removes from Food Wastewater

Suspended Solids – high removal of catalyst fines, chemical precipitates, polymer beads, pigment particles, and other solids.

Hydrocarbons – high removal of free and emulsified hydrocarbons from refinery and petrochemical wastewater.

Chemical Precipitates – high removal of precipitated metals and other chemical solids.

Polymers and Resins – high removal of polymer particles and resin fines.

Pigments and Dyes – high removal of pigment and dye particles.

Solvents – partial removal of emulsified solvents with proper chemical conditioning.

Emulsified Oils – high removal of stable oil-water emulsions.

Heavy Metals – high removal of metals associated with suspended particles and precipitates.
